For more than 40 years, Claudia Ragni, a prominent leader in the field of substance abuse, has devoted her time and efforts to helping addicted persons find recovery. She is the founder and director of The Kenneth Peters Center for Recovery, Long Island's premier outpatient programs for the treatment of alcoholism and chemical dependency, and serves as a member of the Leadership Council of The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Past President of the Long Island Chapter of Employee Assistance Professionals Association and served on the EAPA Board for over twenty years.

Kenneth Peters Center for Recovery specializes in helping people and families break the cycle of substance use through flexible, real‑world treatment that fits into everyday life. The clinic focuses on Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Outpatient Programs (OP) that blend 12‑step–informed care, individual and group therapy, and strong family involvement, so clients can build lasting sobriety while still working, going to school, and caring for loved ones. Care is grounded in respect, honesty, and personal responsibility, with an experienced team walking alongside each person at every stage of recovery.

At the Kenneth Peters Center for Recovery, care is built around a proven three‑phase pathway that begins with Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and steps down to Outpatient (OP) as people grow stronger in their recovery. In the early phase, clients attend multiple three‑hour sessions each week, receiving focused support, education, and accountability while continuing to live at home and maintain work, school, and family responsibilities. As they progress, session frequency decreases and the emphasis shifts toward practicing new coping skills, navigating real‑world stressors, and preparing for independent, long‑term sobriety.

Across every phase, the team combines evidence‑based therapies, 12‑step–informed programming, and strong family involvement to treat both addiction and co‑occurring mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Each treatment plan is individualized, with clinicians focusing on what matters most to the person in front of them, building trust, reducing shame, and helping clients feel understood and supported as they make lasting change.

The Kenneth Peters Center for Recovery provides information, education, and treatment services to addicted persons and their families.

The treatment team at KPC developed and pioneered the concept of Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation as an alternative to traditional inpatient treatment and we remain on the forefront of the addictions network on Long Island.

The fundamental principle underlying our therapeutic efforts is the concern for the individual's recovery from chemical dependency which involves sobriety, the psychological and spiritual growth of the individual as a whole, and the healing of the intra-family conflict.

The strength of our program lies in the excellence and integrity of the staff, the dedication to effective treatment which combines individualized counseling and psychological treatment with the group process of recovery, and the willingness to deliver what we set forth as our treatment policies and capabilities. Our strength is also in our flexibility to offer each client individualized treatment within a structured setting.

Because of escalating health care expenses and the ensuing cost-containment measures that have been instituted by health care underwriters, the challenge has been to provide more refined diagnostic and assessment procedures to ensure that the client's needs will be adequately addressed in a flexible and innovative manner without significant compromise of client care.

We have devoted years of effort to this assessment and diagnostic process to ensure that the proper facility is chosen to ensure safety and appropriate care and that the level of care will be suitable to meet the needs of the client and their family.

KPC offers two premier outpatient treatment centers that combine the qualities of effective care, trust, dignity and respect. The client always comes first.
